Wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera was appointed as the new captain by the SLC with Kusal Mendis as his deputy.

As per reports, SLC’s wholesale changes to the ODI team are backed by the vision of the 2023 World Cup.

“Bangladesh have a few superstars in their squad whereas we have arrived here with a youth-based team. So we do not have anything to lose. We are here to defeat them (Bangladesh) for which we want to give our best in the field. Bangladesh are a dangerous team at their home,” said Udana to the media in the sidelines of their practice session at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Thursday.

The 33-year old Udana made his international debut for Sri Lanka in 2009.

However, sporadic appearances in the two shorter formats of the game for the country has seen the left-arm pacer appear in just 18 ODIs and 30 T20s.

Comparatively, Udana carries vast experience playing in Dhaka for his regular participation in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20.

Udana disagreed that the supposedly seniors in the team will have more of the workload than the younger ones.

“You have to play responsibly in all the games. I might be the experienced one in the team but on a given day a young player might perform better than me. This is why we have to play as a team and take step forward as per the plan,” said Udana.

“I played four to five seasons of BPL T20 here. That way I have the experience of playing here (in Bangladesh). But you have to give the best on the day to win a game,” he added.

Visitors Sri Lanka started training from Wednesday following their three-day room quarantine and testing negative in two Covid-19 tests.

The tourists will play an intra-squad 50-over practice game at BKSP Ground 3 Friday.

Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Mirpur Sunday.

The second and third game of the series will be played on May 25 and 28 respectively at the same venue.
